Having family traditions is what makes holidays memorable. I for one look forward to the same family traditions every year. One thing that my family does every year and for every member of the family is have a birthday celebration. I have found that more and more when I talk to friends that they do not celebrate every ones birthday. It seems like they only celebrate for the kids. My family has always had a party for everyone. My grandfather is 84 and we still have one for him. He, actually is one of the worst. He LOVES to open gifts. At Christmas when we get together we take turns opening gifts and he always has his finger under the tape ready to go way before his turn. We have so many birthdays and some are back to back that we will combine a month’s worth and celebrate at one time. Our family birthdays start in February and go almost monthly through September. The birthday people get to choose the menu for their celebration. One of my favorites meals is Inside Outside Ravioli, salad, french bread and chocolate cake. I will share this family recipe for Inside Outside Ravioli with you. I bet it will become one of your favorites as well.
Inside Outside Ravioli
1 lb ground beef
1 med onion, chopped
Clove of garlic, minced (I use garlic juice, to taste)
1 cup liquid from spinach
1 10 oz frozen chopped spinach
1 lb can spaghetti sauce
1 6 oz can tomato paste
1 8 oz tomato sauce
Dash of pepper
1 7 oz pkg elbow or shell macaroni, cooked
1 cup shredded sharp cheese
1/2 cups soft bread crumbs
2 well beaten eggs
1/4 cup salad oil
Brown ground beef, onion and garlic. Cook spinach according to directions. Drain, reserving liquid. Add water to liquid to make 1 cup. Stir spinach liquid, spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce and paste and pepper into meat mixture. Simmer 10 minutes.
Combine spinach with macaroni, cheese, bread crumbs, eggs and salad oil. Spread in 9 x 13 baking dish. Top with meat sauce. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Yum Yum!
What are some of your family traditions? What is your favorite meal to have?
I think family recipes are the best. The Czech pastry Kolache is my kid’s favorite every time we go back to Nebraska they always expect this special treat. Now being a Grandma I am going to have to get in the habit of making them.
Waiting and waiting for you to write something new in your blog. I finally did. So tag, it’s your turn. We are going to try and come to the early service tomorrow so maybe we can finally do lunch together. I hope so!
